1950 - 2005
1950: the Gaslini Foundation is recognized as a public body according to the Italian law (21.11.1950 n° 897). The Foundation is supervised by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Now it is on a par with other public assistance and charity organizations. The Foundation's Organic Statute is approved by the Italian State.
1957: Gerolamo Gaslini receives a degree in Medicine and Surgery "ad honorem" from the University of Genoa. In his opening lecture he describes the phases of the birth and development of the Institute. He also states that only a close relationship between scientific research and health care service will lead to the improvement in the pediatric sectors in the Institute.
1959: on April 24th the Ministry of Health recognizes the scientific character of the Giannina Gaslini Institute.
1963: Lorenza, Gerolamo Gaslini's wife dies.
1964: Gerolamo Gaslini dies.
1988: Germana Gaslini, daughter of Gerolamo Gaslini dies.
In accordance with the founder's will the pro tempo Archbishop of Genoa becomes President of the Foundation.
