The statute and the goals of the Foundation
The Gerolamo Gaslini Foundation is a de jure body founded according to the Italian law n° 897 of 11.21.1950. The 1949 statute (revised by the D.M. (ministerial decree) of July 23 2002) defines the aim of the Foundation: health care, aid and assistance for children, and support for the Giannina Gaslini Institute. In order to achieve these goals, the Foundation manages an endowment that began with Gerolamo Gaslini and was later consolidated with other investments and donations. The property and the income of the Foundation are managed to achieve the goals defined in its statute. The Foundation is run by an administrative council, representing Genoa's local authorities. In accordance to the Founder's will the council is run by the city's archbishop, now H.E. Mons. ANGELO BAGNASCO. Due to its designation as a de jure public bodythe Gaslini Foundation is under the supervision of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
