The Montelabate Rural Funds farming company

The Montelabate Rural Funds farming company is a society belonging to the Gaslini Foundation that manages the namesake farming company in Perugia and Gubbio. The company covers an area of 1850 hectares.
The farming company produces cereals (soft and durum wheat and barley) sunflower and rapeseed oil, broad beans, grapes and olives.
The area directly cultivated is about 600 hectares, while the woods are over 650 hectares.
The other plots of land which are mainly located in the mountains are rented to a number of shepherds who raise both sheep and cattle in order to preserve the farming patrimony in those areas which are particularly steep.
The plots of land which are directly cultivated are not very productive because they are mainly on the hills, but thanks to the Santa Maria Valdiponte Abbey in Montelabate (known as Montelabate Abbey from the X century), they are a unique panoramic enclave even in a region such as Umbria which is famous for its breathtaking landscape.
